There is a great deal of animosity between bikers and motorists; and there is a clear need for better bike safety. There were 698 U.S. Bicyclist Deaths in 2007 and 43,000 injuries.

The total economic cost of bicyclist injury and death is almost $5.4 billion per year.

Being in the finals is a chance to spend a few months advocating for improved bike safety and to start a discussion on the need for better cyclist/motorist communication in traffic.
